Walking Into the Foots of Vandalism
Vandalism, is defined, in the Oxford dictionary, as an action involving deliberate
destruction of or damage to public or private property. In the video of “Why Vandalism” the
author points out ways that male teenagers reach a certain boundary and fall into the steps of
committing vandalism. The video demonstrates that vandalism is done by teenagers and it is
represented by a certain gender, that being males. It places its views about these three boys Jeff,
Ad, and Don. In the clip, it shows the different traits that each boy has and what makes them
contribute and lead them into participating in vandalism. Their reasons stated things like,
thinking that everyone is against them and that the character must get revenge, it also talks about
the influence that their peers inject upon them, and the love and attention from their families. All
of the things said in the film can lead an individual to take part in vandalism, especially on
teenage males. Though two of the casual agreements they make are true, like having an urge of
getting even and having the influence that lead them, there is one that does not contribute to the
effectiveness of the why vandalism can start and that is the attention they receive at home.
In the video of “Why Vandalism” the narrator states that many people participate in
vandalism because of the feeling that everyone is against them and that it causes a desperate urge
to get even. Their example was a teenager named Jeff. Jeff is a student, he is that one kid that
many do not pay much attention to. He is laughed at in the video because he does not have an
idea as to why of the bunny has gained weight. This is demonstrating the way that negative

remarks from his classmate elevate him into thinking of getting revenge. This scene is an
accurate illustration and it is proven by the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), which
states that this indeed is one of the ways that vandalism starts. People that do vandalism are in
fact in rage with their surroundings and feel like payback is the only option to calm down. Sue
Schefff is a writer and is involved in stopping cyberbullying and any other sorts of actives that
involve hurting others. As she writes in her article of Criminal Mischief and Your Teen,
Whether the character feels wronged by an institution or individual, teens may take out their
anger and frustration by ‘anonymously’ defacing the property of someone or something that feel
has wronged them(Scheff, par. 2). This proves that teenagers actually partake in vandalism
because of the eager they have of getting even. Teens are most likely to face this problem
because of their surroundings in school. Even though people think it’s a small joke, others do not
take it that way. This shows the effectiveness of one way vandalism is started. When a person
feels hurt they tend to want to get even and hurt that one that has caused them wrong. Proving
the clips point that revenge is a contribution of how teens end up doing vandalism.
The next point they talk about is of their influences. The video establishes this by
connecting the three boys, Jeff; the one that is angered for revenge, Don; who is annoyed by the
affection he receives at home and Ad; the poor kid who no one cares about. When mixing these
three feelings all together it makes a bitter way of seeing life. Neither of these three kids have
anything positive going around on them. They all think negative and this is demonstrated in the
video clip. In Vandalism Hurts the writer provides a statement that there is “No single "type" of
vandal, a vandal might be the smartest kid in school or the one who's always in trouble” (Hazard,
par. 2). Andrea Hazard is the author of this article, she writes for Current Health 1 and Current
Health 2. These magazine that she writes for are national educational magazines for middle and
