Week 7 Assignment: Case Study- Space Race
What space race meant for the U.S. and USSR during the cold war
Space race was a cold war between the United States and the USSR over the
development of aeronautical capabilities like human spaceflight and space missions. The United
States and the Soviet Union were regarded as significant during the space race since they
provided the world with superior science, technology and economic systems. During the late
1950s, the space race was known as a central focus for all of superpowers, as each sought to
control the world politically, technologically and economically. On the other hand, the Cold War
had many impacts for both the Soviet Union and United States. During this time, all nations were
busy developing weaponry in preparation for war. The two countries believed they were the
finest in the world at developing technology. The competition between communist and capitalist
countries, according to Duiker (2015), was the primary cause of the Cold War. After Soviet
Union launched the Sputnik satellite the space race began in 1957. The U.S. also announced
goals to launch the first human-made satellite, claiming that the other party possessed advanced
weapons and technology. After being devastated during the Great War in 1939, the USSR made
an unexpected step. After the Sputnik satellite exploded, the Soviet Union fell apart, effectively
ending the Cold War (Duiker, 2015).
Is the space program still relevant?
The location G.P.S. is still prevalent in today's dynamic world because it can also forecast
the weather. As a result, we may state that the space program is both necessary and essential.
Modern technology, such as solar panels and luminous goggles, has emerged due to space
initiatives.
