Deliverable and Instructions:
This minilab makes use of the Windows 10 VM available through the Netlab environment. For
instructions on how to get connected to the Netlab environment, please consult the Lab
Connectivity Guide on D2L.
The submission file for this assignment will be a pdf version of this document, with your
answers and screenshots added. Each correctly answered question will count for 1 point. Each
screenshot will also count for 1 point and will be evaluated on whether it fully meets the
requirements of the screenshot prompt. Your score will be determined by the percentage of
total questions and screenshot prompts answered correctly.
Answer the questions below the prompts indicated in blue. If a question is multi-part, you
must answer all parts correctly to receive the point for that question. No partial credit will be
given.
Add screenshots below the prompts indicated in blue. When adding screenshots to the
document, include any command itself (when applicable), as well as the output or requested
information.
Ensure that each screenshot is readable in-line in the submission document.
If I am unable to read the contents of your screenshot in-line in the document because it is
too large, it will not count for credit. Do not include screenshots of your whole desktop or
whole application window to when the screenshot prompt is asking about one single part of
the output.

Minilab 1 Wireshark
Step 1: Use the Netlab environment to access your Windows 10 Host. Sign in with the
username Administrator and the password CSEC378418!
Step 2: Open a web browser and download Wireshark from
https://www.wireshark.org/#download. Download the 64-bit Windows installer and run it.
During the install process, leave the defaults when prompted for any additional options.
Step 3: Open Wireshark. Select your Ethernet0 interface from the list, and then start a packet
capture by clicking the blue fin in the top left like the image below.
Note: Familiarize yourself with the Wireshark interface. You will notice a search bar at the top
and then three panes: one on top with a list of packets captured, one in the middle with packet
data and header information, and a bottom panel with the raw packet bytes. When you select a
packet in the top pane, you will see details for that specific packet in the other two panes.
Step 4: Open a web browser and browse to www.depaul.edu. Take a brief look at our lovely
website. Then go back to Wireshark and click the red square stop button in the top left corner
to stop the packet capture.
Step 5: You can use the search bar at the top of the Wireshark interface to search for packet
data, protocols, IP addresses, etc. Simply type “dns” into the search bar to narrow down your
view to just DNS packets. In the list of DNS packets locate the find your DNS query for
“www.depaul.edu”.
Step 6: Click on the query packet to take a closer look at the details in the second pane. You
will see a set of details in the second pane that show information about the packet you have
selected. You can expand these fields to get additional specific information about the packet
data.
