Why Should We Vote
Purpose statement: To persuade Americans to the need to actively take part in the process of
voting.
Thesis Statement: Voting is your Civic duty and it is through such a process that you get the
chance to decide the future of our nation.
Today, most Americans who are aged 18years and over are entitled to vote in the state and
federal elections. However, voting has not always been a default right for all Americans. The
United constitution was originally written but did not specify who should vote but defined how
the country would vote. Over the generation, people fought to ensure that every American of age
has the right to vote (Leininger & Gupta, 2020). Therefore, when citizens fail to vote they are
failing our forefather's role in trying to create a country where we can all vote.
Attention Graber
Failing to vote is simply voting for a leader that does not represent the majority’s interest.
Overview of main points:
Your vote counts
Your vote might not directly lead to the election of a president but when it is joined by
others in your voting district or county it undoubtedly matters.
Most states are structured along the winner takes it all modality where the candidate with
majority votes gets the states electoral vote (Leininger & Gupta, 2020).
Your votes also affect the local elections
Failing to vote is giving up one's voice
