STI’s 2
1. When is the appropriate time to tell a person that you have a sexually transmitted
infection? How would you ask whether or not they've engaged in any risky behaviors?
(Many STIs can be asymptomatic, it is important to know about past behaviors even if no
STI was diagnosed.)
It is important to tell your partner that you have a sexually transmitted infection
immediately after you test positive for any STI. This would ensure that both of you get
some medication. Asking a partner if they have engaged in some risky behavior would
include starting off by telling them how much you trust them and then ask if they had
mistakenly engaged in a risky behavior.
2. How would you ask a dating partner if she/he has had a sexually transmitted infection in
the past? Describe a way to bring up the topic of condom use with your partner. How
might you encourage someone who does not want to use a condom?
I would definitely start off a conversation about STI's and then ask my dating partner if
they had ever experienced any STI. During the same conversation, I would then ask my
partner their idea about condoms. If my partner or any other person felt that condoms
were not necessary, I would describe the risks of not using condoms and the advantages
of using them.
3. Is it unethical to withhold information about you having an STI until sex becomes a part
of the relationship?
