Airports are considered an important sector that considerably contributes to the country's
local economy and also offers employment. Following the increasing demand for air travel, the
sector offers many socioeconomic benefits. However, the sector has raised environmental
concerns with respect to the operations of corporations. In my opinion, the greatest
environmental concern for the airport manager is noise pollution. The aircraft produces
unwanted sounds that can affect the health of the individuals living near the airport (Sameh &
Scavuzzi, 2016). It causes negative effects on an individual's physical, psychological, and overall
social being. Since the aircraft industry emerged, the noise issue has been a concern. The two
sources of excessive noise come from the engines and the aircraft frame. The airplane produces
more noise when it's taking off and landing. Aircraft get considered to be the most contributors
to the problems of noise in most communities.
The noise problems caused by aircraft are raising concerns for the airport managers. They
need to find ways and means that can reduce aircraft noise emissions. Given that the noise
affects the overall being of the individuals, it is important to find ways of mitigating this
problem. The environmental issue is mitigated through urban planning, where the airports will be
built in vicinities away from the community (Thompson, et al., 2022). Thus, they will cause less
harm to the people. The other mitigation is through applying new technologies and designs that
will reduce the noise produced by aircraft. The technology can improve the engines and bring out
the ones not producing the noise that can harm the environment and its surrounding. Other
mitigation methods include restricting the operations of some of the aircraft types. For example,
the frequency of flights and the night time flights. The other solution that can be incorporated to
mitigate the noise quotas is managing the runways and the routes used by aircraft. The process
will help redistribute the noise and hence will not affect the surroundings.
