Employee hiring remains a crucial operation in human resource management. This
process plays a vital role in helping a company or an organization identity the right candidates
for the right positions. During hiring, organizations must have a well-organized hiring process
(Cascio & Aguinis, 2019). The consensus view for this argument is that a well-organized hiring
process allows organizations to minimize bias during hiring employees while ensuring that all
candidates are treated equally and fairly. There is no doubt that organizations that lack a
standardized hiring process face several issues, including court cases. In particular, Abercrombie
& Fitch and Hooters have faced a number of court cases in the recent past due to their lack of a
standardized employee hiring process. Therefore, this paper attempts to identity at least two
court cases relating to Abercrombie & Fitch and Hooters and discuss the outcomes of each court
case. The paper also reflects on each company's strategic workforce planning and identifies a
company where the strategic workforce planning process strengthened the company.
Court Cases Relating to Abercrombie & Fitch and Hooters
Abercrombie & Fitch and Hooters have faced several court cases in the recent past due to
their unfair hiring practices. One of the court cases relating to Abercrombie & Fitch was a case
filed by a seventeen-year-old from Oklahoma who applied for a job at Abercrombie & Fitch and
Hooters in 2008 (Baert, 2018). The woman was known as Samantha Elauf. Samantha Elauf
loved Abercrombie & Fitch to the extent that she referred to them as her other home and was
excited about the discount that the employees were being given. After being interviewed, it was
determined that Samantha had qualified for the job. However, the manager who interviewed her
was concerned that Samantha's hijab would violate the policies of Abercrombie & Fitch. Even
though she was deemed qualified for the job, the company did not hire her because she had worn
