Psychology is termed as the approach of defining and explaining the root causes of

various human behaviors. Psychology also elaborates on why people act the way they do or how

they end up being the way they are (King, 2019). For instance, research has been developed

based on the need of explaining the causes of depression. Depression is considered as a mental

disorder that originates from various human behaviors. The psychological research on depression

incorporates the scientific investigation aimed at understanding the causes of mental disorder.

The research is also experimental as it involves the aspects of identifying the diverse sets of

causes of depression to the specimen used. The research on depression can involve the

independent variables which involve self-esteem, trauma, stress, relationship issues, loss of jobs

or loved ones, and overwhelmed (King, 2019). The dependent variables involve the elements of

suicidal thoughts, mood change, weight loss/gain, insomnia, poor decision-making aspects,

sadness, and emptiness.

Furthermore, the research on depression will involve the use of a sample population that

would be useful in analyzing the elements of depression. The procedure will involve a six-month

evaluation of ten individuals who have had cases of behavioral changes that would lead to

depression. For instance, the sampling involved the process of identifying people who have had

cases of loss of family members, loss of a job, poor grades, poor self-esteem, and trauma. The

incidences are believed to be the independent variables that would cause depression (Lemmens

et al., 2016). The scientific psychological approach of depression research will also focus on the

natural setting which will incorporate the experimental and investigative study of human

behaviors. The natural settings will analyze the changes in the human behavior of the selected

population sample in the study. Also, the study will focus on adherence to the ethical
