HS450 #8 Ethics and Change Management Decision Making
Ethics and change management are frequently addressed in the same phrase but are not
the same. Change management is the activity of defining how to execute particular ideas,
whereas ethics pertains to the principles or ideals that influence people's behavior. When making
a change, ethics can help guide decision-making (Karpe & Rigamonti, 2016). For example, if a
company is considering switching from a paper-based system to an electronic one, it would be
ethically appropriate for them to ask their employees whether they would be willing to use new
technology during work hours. Furthermore, change management is not always about ethics;
sometimes, it is about efficiency or cost savings. For example, suppose a company is moving
from a manual system of recordkeeping to an electronic one. In that case, they may need to
consider how much time it will take their employees with existing skill sets before they can
begin using the new system effectively.
