1) How has nursing practice evolved over time? Discuss the key leaders and historical
events that have influenced the advancement of nursing, nursing education, and
nursing roles that are now part of the contemporary nursing profession.
Nursing is an ever-changing field or work. WIth the constant changing work conditions
and advancements in technology, our day to day work becomes more advanced than it
did the previous day. With the progression of health care practices and techniques,
mortality and infection rates are declining.
Florence Nightingale is considered the founder of modern nursing. Not only did she
volunteer in the Crimean War, she also played a huge part in hand hygiene with the
wounded. She was a leader of change as she convinced British military officials to
make significant changes in the hospital environment to drastically improve patient
care. (Falkner, 2018) Nightingale also was the founder of Brititans first nursing
school and since then, nursing schools have evolved to what they are today. Clara
Barton is personally one of favorite historical nurses. She was the founder of the
American Red Cross and volunteered during the civil war. Her efforts lead to the Army
Nurse Corps. (Falkner, 2018)
There are many roles a nurse can take. Researchers, clinicians, administrators,
community organizers, policymakers, and educators possess a mix of skills that adds
to the dynamic impact the nursing profession has on health care. (Falkner, 2018) All
these roles along with physicians, pharmacists, and social works help make up the
interdisciplinary team.

Select a nursing theory and provide a concise summary of it. Provide an example in
nursing practice where the nursing theory you selected would be effective in
managing patient care.
Conceptual models explain a particular way of thinking, or a mental picture of how
the theory fits together, according to the theorist. (Falkner, 2018) This concept is
very similar to a scientific theory, in which ideas have been tested over and over and
become a theory when they can not be proven wrong. Nursing theory on the other
hand, is a structure of ideas that help organize disciplinary thinking and influence
nursing practice.
Imogene Kings Theory of Goal Attainment is defined as the personal, interpersonal,
and social systems that all interact together to reach a common goal. This theory is
like using the interdisciplinary team to care for a patient as a whole. The book uses
the example of including family in discharge family for an elderly patient who can not
drive. Another example would be using the team to set goals for discharge planning
that incorporates the patient, staff and family. I work in a neuro ICU and personally
