LUBRICANTS AND LUBRICATION SYSTEMS 2
Lubricants and Lubrication Systems
Question #1a
There are four types of lubricants; grease, penetrating and dry lubricants, and grease.
Grease and oil are the most common types of lubricants (Collins, 2017). The picture below is of
the components found in lubricants.
The penetrating and dry lubricants are used once in a while. Firstly grease is a result of mixing a
thickener, oil, and supplementary lubricants like Teflon. We can establish that it has similar
properties as oil (Collins, 2017). Nevertheless, its stickiness and texture enable it to stick to
surfaces better. Grease comes in multiple forms; it can be as thin as ketchup and as thick as
cheddar cheese. Below is a picture of what grease looks like on bolts.

It is a thin liquid coming in varying viscosity (Collins, 2017). Once in a while, oil is mixed with additives to diminish erosion and corrosion. Below is a picture of oil on bearings. Thirdly, penetrating lubricants are used to infiltrate tiny cracks, enable lubrication, and break up rust and dry lubricants as an alternative to grease and oil (Saif, 2020). It comes in a spray and can be mixed with alcohol and water (Collins, 2017). The purpose of the three types of lubricant is as follows. Firs ...
