The two areas of learning found most significant on my course were the care for
veterans and the culture of safety in healthcare delivery. I found the veteran care topics
significant because I had no previous experience on the caring for veterans within my
previous learning or practice settings. The culture of safety is significant as it emphasized
safety in care an important aspect within the care system that I find significantly imperative
to improving patient outcomes as well as experience of care.
I will apply the knowledge in practice through first sharing the knowledge with my
colleagues to ensure a team approach to the implementation. I will them develop systems that
can be applied with the healthcare system to ensure high level of quality patient care and
management as well as ensuring that there is efficient and effective inclusion of patients in
the care processes to enhance safety.
I have so far shared on the culture of safety more notably some of the patient safety
tools that I learned about from the forum discussions and from the AHRQ websites. I have
shared the drug reconciliation tool with my colleagues so we can customize them for use
within our practice settings.
Learning is a progressive affair, for me, some of the key insights from the insights
gained from the course include the development of better understanding of patient care
approaches within the diverse patient characteristics. I feel this will be imperative in my
academic journey as it will significantly impact on my learning and diversification on
knowledge on various aspects of patient care.
