Research Journal Entry #2
Your final essay for this class will be a researched argument on ethical issues represented
in a genre of film, podcasts, tv, books, or games. This week, you’ll make your plan for
what genres and items you want to study, and how you will schedule your time.
Instructions:
This slide presentation will give you an overview of what we mean by “primary
research, and how it differs from the secondary research that we’ll also conduct this
semester.
Fill in the following questions to make your own Primary Research Syllabus for essays 2
and 3:
1. After reading the “Picking a Course Topic” link in our course’s menu, what’s
an ethical question you want to explore through research? Of course, this
might change a little, but you’ll need to stay in the same general theme over
the course of the semester.
The ethical question I want to explore through research the question of gender
equality.
2. What do you hope to learn about this topic through primary research of
movies, tv, games, or podcasts over the next 5 weeks?
I hope to learn how gender equality can help both men and women achieve equal
opportunities to positively contribute to their communities.
3. List your planned primary research sources in the table below and their
approximate length in hours/minutes. They may be games, movies, tv shows,
books, podcasts, or other media that I just haven’t thought of here.
(There may be sources you list that you later decide don’t work for your topic.
This list can change as needed.)
Notes:
These should add up to at least 4 hours’ worth of observation/ viewing/
listening/ reading/playing.
One source can be the one you wrote about for essay 1. Please do more
primary research beyond that.
I consider 40 pages in a book to equal 1 hours' worth of reading.
These sources should all be related to your ethical question.
You can add rows if you need to.
