1945 Vennevar Bush publishes paper on memex machine I think that it is important to go to the very beginning of networking to fully understand how we got to the point that we are today. “the memex would index everything with associative links and pieces of information that could be retrieved through paths of logical connections” (PBS Online, 1998). Why is this an important factor? This is important because Vannevar bush was the first person to come up with the idea about networking. A true leader in the industry before his time. 1958 Advanced Research Projects Agency Though Vennevar Bushes idea did not come into reality until 13 years after his paper was written, but it still became a reality. In 1958 “President Dwight D. Eisenhower created the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) in 1958 as a direct response to Sputnik's launch” (Strickland). President Dwight D. Eisenhower allotted over a billion dollars for U.S. research and development centers which included computers and networking to make America the most advanced nation in the world. 1962 Information Processing Techniques Office (IPTO) The IPTO funded research into advanced computer and networking and was put into place to advance this technology.
