Roles Of Epidemiology In Context Of The Pandemic Situations
Epidemiology has five primary tasks during a pandemic, including public surveillance,
investigating the field, analytic studies, evaluation of the situation, and linkages. Essentially,
epidemiology is critical in the fight against any infection because it is involved in studying how
the disease is spread and why it has loomed large in the strive to understand and contain and
respond to the pandemic; an important role of epidemiology is to analyze data on deaths and
infections, and project from models of studies how the infection is spreading (Tsang et al., 2021).
Epidemiologists also develop policy decisions such as restricting movements in parts of the
world, imposing quarantines, and social distancing. Epidemiologists have to interpret the data
since this is the focal point in the control and prevention of the infection (Obi, Ezaka, Nwankwo,
and Ifeatu, 2020). Epidemiology is therefore concerned with surveillance, monitoring and
identifying the outbreak, and conducting research.
