How Organizational Mission, vision and Values affect strategic plans
The mission statement states the nature of the company, what it does, and what it values.
Hence it states its purpose of existence, the type of products or services it offers, its market,
geographical location, and kind of customers. The vision statement declares the future goals of
the organization. Therefore, the vision statement entails the current and future objectives of an
organization. Values of the organization are the beliefs of the organization or the fundamental
principles of the organization. They are the standard behaviors based on ethical perspectives, for
example, integrity, discipline, accountability, trust, honesty, and freedom, just to mention a few.
For instance, most organizations prioritize employee safety and do not tolerate corruption. These
are some of the good examples of organizational values (Joy, 2020).
The organizational mission, vision, and values affect the firm's strategic direction since
all the strategic plans made by a company must align with the organization's mission, vision, and
values (Data & Governance Initiative, 2018). The three guide the organization on what to do to
get where it wants to be in the future and helps in developing measurable goals or objectives.
The mission, vision, and values act like roadmaps, road signs, and instructions that guide a
driver, which in this instance, is organizational leadership (Joy, 2020). Since the nature of the
two organizations differs, their mission, vision, and values reflect the kind of operations carried
out in each organization. For example, a health organization's mission, vision, and values cannot
be similar to that of a firm that produces oil. The behaviors of employees and customers of a
particular organization must adhere to the organization's mission, vision, and values.
