A customer tries to start his computer and gets an error

message that says “NTLDR is missing.” He calls you in a

panic, and you go to his home to investigate the problem.

When you arrive, what should you do?

A. Reboot the system to clear the error.

B. Use the startup or rescue disc to start the system and

copy NTLDR from the disc to the root of the C:\\ drive.

C. Download NTLDR from Microsoft using another

computer and then copy it to the C:\\Windows directory on

the customer’s computer.

D. Your only option is to reinstall Windows.

Solution

B. NTLDR is the boot loader for Windows and is

responsible for booting the system. If this file is missing,

Windows will be unable to boot. You can copy the file from

the installation or recovery disk into the root of the C:\\

drive and then reboot the computer into Windows.
