A large software company decides to evaluate two different
team organization approaches. In order to do this, it splits
its development team in two randomly (a coin flip
determines Team A or Team B for each worker). Team A is
organized in one way (democratic, hierarchical, modern,
etc.) and Team B is organized in another. The teams are
tasked with creating the same product, and at the end of
this period of time (it is estimated that the experiment will
run about 12 months – being sufficiently large) the
products will be compared, and the team that resulted in
the better product will have its organizational methods
adopted by the company. Is this approach feasible? Why,
or why not?
Solution
The approach will only tell the organizaation which one of
the two applied method is more suitable for the
development phase, the appoach has both benefits and
disadvantages.
The benefits are:
1. The future cause of action will be decided after the
analysis of team work
2. More optimized method will be traced by the
organization
