DECOLONIZING EDUCATION Introduction  According to Nelson Mandela, Education is the best weapon that can be used to change the world.  Educational institutions are meant to give students the necessary tools to deal with real-life situations and survive the fourth industrial revolution.  Technology has undergone exponential advancement since the beginning of the century, and a move has been made to eradicate the socioeconomic class hierarchy linked to the decolonization of the school curriculum and institutional culture.  The presentation is on the reasons for and ways of decolonizing education in South Africa.  Waghid’s proposal for an African philosophy of education and its implications on teaching and learning is discussed.  The concept of humanizing pedagogy is also examined.
