What are the affects of globalization to your organization? What are the problems that need to

be addressed while expanding globally?

My company is a globally operative transcription company and the above question will be

addressed accordingly.

Globalization

Globalization has made the world a lot closer and accessible. It is basically a process where

people, companies and governments of different nations around the world interact for the

purpose of investment and trade through utilizing information technology.

Affects:

Globalization has affects on almost all the industries including culture, politics, economics,

growth and human development around the world. In case of affects it incurs to our business

are mostly positive. Now our company has link with abroad transcription companies and we

send part of our transcriptions to them.

• For instance doctors sitting in USA either from home or office writes down a transcription

and transcription company in India would record and copy the transcription and then

send back to appropriate consultant at clinic or hospital.

• Another positive aspect is video conferencing through which offshore offices can attend

the training or a conference.

• Daily communication is done in no time through use of emails, text or instant messages.

Problems:

• Among the major problems of globalization towards my organization is job insecurity for

local in house staff. The labor rates in some of the countries e.g. India is comparatively

very low as compare to USA which makes them more attractive employees.

• The time zone difference also counts for fear of losing job as offshore based companies

are writing and sending back the transcriptions faster then the USA companies.

Although the USA staff has been constantly assured of their job security but globalization has

made us ponder on the issues and problems as well.

Globalization affects every small or large organization to different extents and aspects .for

instance my organization is locally operative but encourages multi ethnic cultures, is equal

opportunity employer as well as people of all ages work here. My organization has employees

who work as part time or on contract basis and all of them work as a team and strive for a

common goal. Every member is treated as a team and works for the volume of the day i.e. how

many transcriptions an individual writes or a team writes. We as a team believe that every

individual has its strengths for instance some individuals might be good at typing particular

reports e.g. operative reports while others would be more suitable for writing clinic or office

notes. Similarly some transcriptionists are good at writing report for ESL (English as a second
