What is the role of leadership in strategic implementation?
The role of leadership encompasses many factors. Leader help create the reputation of a
company. Therefore, the actions of leaders directly reflect strategic implementation and the
outcomes created from implementation. Leaders help maintain the company’s mission and vision
and guide plans to completion. As Hitt, Ireland, & Hoskisson (2009) state, strategic leadership
“…is the ability to anticipate, envision, maintain flexibility, and empower others to create
strategic change as necessary” (p. 340).
What are the key strategic leadership actions?
According to Hitt, Ireland, & Hoskisson (2009) “key strategic leadership actions include
determining strategic direction, establishing balanced organizational controls, effectively
managing the firm’s resource portfolio, sustaining an effective organizational culture, and
emphasizing ethical practices” (p. 350).
How might these key leadership actions affect strategic leadership in the future?
These key leadership actions will affect strategic leadership in the future because managers can
make decisions based on precedence. People are able to learn from past success and failures;
therefore, strategic leadership can alter to ensure mistakes are not repeated. Further, strategic
leadership can employ proven procedures that guarantee success because understanding history
helps guide the future.
