Write a 3 - 5 page paper on the concept of leadership traits
Define the term and concept of leadership traits, including those traits associated with successful
leaders.

Common knowledge supports that good leaders are made not born and there are several
essential differences/traits that separate a leader from a good leader. To begin we must
understand that the very definition of a leader is, “a person who has commanding authority or
influence”. (Meriam Webster, 2012) With the understanding that a leader has commanding
authority this does not necessarily mean this type of leader is viewed and/or respected as a good
leader. A great deal of people feel as though they might have the ‘authority’ to
command/demand things of others while a good leader will inadvertently obtain seven very
important qualities essentially setting them apart from the rest.
The seven qualities of a good leader begin with exemplary character; meaning, this
person has proven to be trustworthy and remains so through outward examples of honesty,
integrity and responsibility. A good leader whether they naturally possess leadership qualities or
not, will be diligent to consistently develop and strengthen them in their leadership role(s)”.
(White, 2012)
The second notable characteristic of a good leader is the ability to be “enthusiastic about
their work or cause and also about their role as leader”. (White, 2012) Being passionate about
your work as a leader ultimately results in the passionate response(s) of those you work with
allowing for pristine results and higher motivation levels.
The third essential quality of a good leader is confidence; “A leader who conveys
confidence towards the proposed objective inspires the best effort from team members”. (White,
2012)A good leader also needs to convey the ability to function in a purposeful manner in
