Week 1 WS ENV Pol, Reg, law
Instructions: Thoroughly compare and contrast the state of the environment in 1948 and today.
Particularly focusing on the US, would you say that environmental regulations have become necessary
during this transition period? Why or why not? What key events justify your position? 750 words essay
Cite all sources used both within and at the end of your answer using APA Style. A fully developed
response should go beyond your textbook and required readings (although you may include them), have
at least 3 citations from valid sources (no wiki-anything; use .gov, .edu. or .org websites) and should
avoid direct quotes from others; rather relying on your own synthesis.
This course uses automatic plagiarism checking software (Turnitin). You may submit your work up to 3
times prior to the deadline to check your similarity scores (aim for 10% similarity or less). It takes
roughly 15 minutes for the system to process your submission and show the score.

Introduction
In the present times of increasing world population and more and more modernization, global
environment systems are coming under more and more pressure. But if the world had not reacted
the way in which it did during the 1948 period, the state of the present environment would have
been beyond imagination. This paper compares and contrasts the state of the environment in
1948 and today, argues in favor of the need of legislations during that period in U.S. and
mentions the key events to justify the position.
Comparison and contrast of the state of the environment in 1948 and today
There are more differences than similarities between the state of environment in 1948 and today.
The first difference lies in the lack of incidence of burning of rivers in today world but this was a
common feature in 1948 and around. The rivers in present times don't stink and have better
aquatic and marine life. In 1948 and later the environment had to give some very strong signs to
the general public about the dangers of pollution because the people were taking it for granted
that pollution is a by-product of industrial growth and progress and must be ignored. In the
present times, the environment is calmer and people don't wait for signals to reduce or prevent
air pollution. So, the environment was taken for-granted in 1948 but not today.
Moreover, the air pollution from automobiles, industrial processes, and the burning of coal in
factories and in homes was very common during the 1948. In the present times, the vehicles have
to follow certain emission standards, the traditional sources of fuel are being replaced more and
more by healthier options like solar energy, wind energy, etc which cause zero pollution. In fact
