That was why I almost missed it. Yet, from the corner of myeye, I saw an eerily lit side gallery, and after a second look, I saw a white nearly naked mangazing to his left, holding an apple close to his lips. My father told me about this, and toldme to find it when I visited the museum. He said it was amazing. That it had broken intothousands of pieces, and somehow, the conservators were able to faultlessly piece it backtogether. It took them years.On October 6, 2002, the plywood pedestal displaying Tullio Lombardos Adamcollapsed. The marble statue crashed to the ground and shattered into 28 large pieces andhundreds of smaller fragments (not thousands, but it must have appeared so.) Since thatday twelve years ago, curators and conservators from the Metropolitan Museum of Artcollaborated to restore the sculpture to its high standard pre-accident.
