Thesis Statement and Theme: Self Portraits and Nature
Artists, philosophers, and psychologists have always been interested in the idea of the
self. Throughout history, many artists have created amazing works of self portraits that tell their
stories, emotional experiences, and physical development. Both Dürer and Rembrandt are great
examples of artists who painted portraits of themselves. Rembrandt van Rijn created the largest
number of self-portraits of any major artist in history (Rothenberg 108). Albrecht Dürer is not

symbols of medieval art that have almost degenerated into kitsch. Among the artists of medieval
Germany, Albrecht Dürer is without doubt one of the most outstanding figures (Charles 8). All

nature. The nature and art are related to each other as the painting of the nature which explains
