DEEP PROCESSING DEMONSTRATION 2
Deep Processing Demonstration
Introduction
Metacognitive is a very important aspect for students. It helps students increase their
understanding about a topic. It helps in identification of the strong and weak students. Strong
students are found to be competitive in class and can remember what the lecturer said even
though it is hard to capture everything (Tuckman, 2010). The aim of a student is to get what is
said in class to increase the ability of the student to score in exams and tests related to what was
learnt. It is, therefore, important for the students to improve their metacognition. It is also
important to teach students about the strategies of metacognitive sophistication when the students
should learn how to learn. Students with poor metacognitive will sit for an exam and confidently
do the paper only to be shocked by low scores obtained. This is caused by overconfidence they
have when doing the exams. Students have different learning styles that help them go through
education. There is no standard learning style and therefore, instructors are required to help
highly the students in the best learning methods (Slamecka, 2009). With better learning
strategies, the students’ memory of what was taught in class increases.
Different researchers have been done to investigate the metacognitive ability of students.
Students with good metacognition perform better in exams since they do not capture the basics
of a topic only by the main concept. This helps them apply the learnt knowledge in the tests like
exams. It has been found that some students will depend on what has been written on the books.
Any test outside what has been covered will require the student to have critical thinking and
information from other resources. Metacognition will help in such situations and the difference
between the students with high and low metacognition will be clear (Balch, 2005). Poor students
