from friends and family members when they accuse the victim of not taking the necessary
precautions to prevent the rape from occurring (2002). For example the victim was out late
walking or they were drunk at a party. It is never the victim’s fault they became a victim but
some victims are just more vulnerable making it easier for the crime to be committed against
them. For example a prostitute is vulnerable to being raped because of their profession.
Victimologists should remain objective because they are professionals and should never be
biased for the victim but their main goal is to ensure the needs of the victim are understood and
addressed.

In the criminal justice system surveys are used to measure trends, research crime patterns,
determine levels of victimization, etc. surveys allow the criminal justice professional to collect
data from key stakeholders on crime problems and then predict given outcome. Qualitative and
quantitative research survey methods are used to gather data on crime and ethical situations
facing the criminal justice system. Survey research allows a large amount of data to be gathered
in order to develop effective responses. Survey research allows the criminal justice system to
determine the best way to act in a given situation and provide legislator with the facts they need
to make critical decisions concerning the development of laws and punishments for the offenders
