MAINFRAMES AND DISTRIBUTED DATA PROCESSING 2
Mainframes and Distributed Data Processing Response
The choosing of a data processing method is very crucial. I totally agree with you that in case of
a transmission error in a mainframe, the data for the whole system can be potentially lost since
the setup involves a centralized computer. The distributed data processing method as you’ve
mentioned is advantageous in the event of data loss due to error in transmission since data can be
restored from another interconnected computer from the main database. In addition, the
distributed data processing setup will be suitable since the effect of the transmission error, be it
the system breaking down and stopping to work or loss of data, only one computer will be
affected which makes it easier to handle (Ranjani & Mary, 2017). I also agree that the cost of
mainframes is high compared to distributed data processing setup. A company should first
understand their structure to know what is suitable for better results.
