CASE STUDY #4 2 Case Study #4 Case 1: Frank Johnson 1. How does the urinary system relate to sexual function in males? How does the prostate relate to the bladder infections in males? The urinary system relates to sexual function in males because it is all intertwined both anatomically and functionally. The bladder is emptied by going through the urethra which is a tube that passes through the prostate. If there are any issues with the prostate it can cause the urethra to back up and not properly drain the bladder causing infection. [2] 2. On Frank’s follow up examination, what are some of the alarming symptoms and concerns he has? Burning sensation when he urinates and pain when he ejaculates were both alarming symptoms. 3. What possible conditions/complications could be causing Frank’s symptoms? What does a negative leukocyte and nitrite urinalysis test strip results rule out? Bladder infection, UTI, or prostate issue could cause these symptoms. Negative leukocyte and nitrite urinalysis would indicate it is not a UTI. 4.
