Rasmussen Hospital Policy SWOT Analysis and Recommendations
Introduction
In the current healthcare setting, several healthcare facilities implement SWOT analysis
to evaluate a policy’s effectiveness. Particularly, the approach is effective in analyzing the policy
strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, as well as threats. In other words, SWOT analysis assists
the organization in advancing on what they do well, minimizing risk, taking advantage of the
opportunities, and address the needs of the policy (Gurel & Tat, 2017). The policy in the
assignment states that “it is the policy of Rasmussen Hospital to ensure that all urethral catheter
insertions are completed under sterile technique. Two Registered Nurses are to be present for
each insertion, and document according to the procedure outlined in this policy.” Therefore, to
assess this policy’s effectiveness and efficiency, the administration should implement a SWOT
analysis. This is because it is also a typical strategic planning instrument originating from
marketing and business analysis, which inspires the hospital management to reflect and evaluate
the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of a specific policy and how best it can be
implemented. Therefore, this paper will discuss SWOT analysis based on the policy about the
proper insertion of urinary catheters in Rasmussen Hospital.
Strengths
According to Gurel & Tat (2017), “strength is the characteristic that adds value to
something and makes it more special than others. Strength demonstrates that something is more
advantageous when compared to something else.” In the case of the policy in Rasmussen
