The poet describes the formation of an island which lagged after the formation of the continents. The island remained strangled beneath the ocean when the continents formed. The island struggled for millions of years before its emergence. The persona reveals how the emerged island struggles to exist in the ocean with gigantic tides and waves. The island has great volcanic potential; it continues to resurface after submergence. The ocean has rough waters bu the small island stands strong (Michener, 2000). The island emergence was fascinating, but the most important is not the emergence but survival. The island struggles through the first ten thousand years since its first emergence. The small island has then been washed away by the tide. However, the island is expected to rise again after its coverage by the ocean waters. The poem highlights and warns the historical occupants of the island. The island is in a constant struggle, marred by submergence and resurfacing of the small island. The occupants may be submerged as the island drowns in the depths of the ocean waters. The volcanic activity on the island may kill the occupants as it triumphantly establishes itself.
