Safety is the foundation on which various aspects of quality care such as safety, and effectiveness are founded. Safety is the cornerstone of quality care in that it identifies processes of hazards, the cause and potential consequences of risks and invents as well as new ways of avoiding the risks. It entails the prevention of the likelihood of occurrence of risks and the implementation of contingency plans that are intended to reduce the chances of occurrence. On the other hand, quality implies the identification of customer requirements, measurements of the performance of processes, and the design of processes to help in the achievement of objectives (Pandian et al. 2016). Quality also refers to the establishment of improvement processes meant for preventing and correcting non-conformities.
