Running head: CLIMATE CHANGE ACTIVITY Climate change activity Name Tutor Institution Course Date 1 CLIMATE CHANGE ACTIVITY 2 Climate Change Activity Part 1. Permafrost Video Watch this short video on Permafrost and answer the following questions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN4OdKPy9rM&feature=relmfu 1) What are the local hazards of melting permafrost? Melting permafrost causes tipping of houses, collapsing of roads and sinking of grounds. This can force an entire community to relocate. 2) What are the global hazards of melting permafrost? Melting Permafrost is accelerating global warming. It releases greenhouse gases which cause increase in temperatures and this encourages global warming. 3) What greenhouse gas is released as permafrost melts? Methane. 4) Why is the greenhouse gas present in permafrost? The environment surrounding the lakes contains plants and trees, which are prone to dying. Melting permafrost causes the ground surface to collapse. When the ground sinks, the dead matter from plants are deposited to the bottom of the lakes, where microorganisms decomposes it, releasing the methane gas to the permafrost. CLIMATE CHANGE ACTIVITY 3 (ppm means parts per million (We will ignore the v in ppmv). So, 300 parts per million carbon dioxide means that if you had 1 million molecules of atmosphere, 300 of those would be carbon dioxide.) 1) The above graph shows changes in CO2 concentration from 1958-2010. Describe the trend of the graph. Since 1958, the comp ...
