It is on the basis of this belief that Gestalt psychologists came up with a set of principles that try to explain the particular perceptual organization or in other words, the way that smaller items are grouped to form bigger ones. The major influences of the Gestalt psychologists are basically proximity, continuity, similarity, connectedness, and closure. It is such five principles that the psychologists that follow the Gestalt psychology argue that they exist as a result of the human brain having an inherited disposition to perceive different patterns in our stimulus on the basis of specific rules. In the academic world, the Gestalt principles are considered by a huge number of researchers and academics to play a very significant role in the visual processing and representations of graphs.
