Results of political polls have led to families expressing their desired candidates at home, something that some members with different opinion feel betrayed (Sonck & Loosveldt, 2010). Some family members will express their intolerance of the other's political opinion through negative response or attacks and at times may even lead to break-up for some couples (Rossini, Helmsley, Sikana, Zhang & Stromer, 2018). These trend has seen many family members avoid politics during family gatherings. The severity of the results of the political polls is intense where people have a varying opinion about a candidate, for instance, the candidacy of President Donald Trump. Many family members who had close relationships with their families and had no discussions that were off-limits cannot discuss current events because it will turn into a debate that does not tolerate the opinion of each other (Whitesides, 2017).
