In the case study, after realizing that the patient had a diminished intestinal absorption based on the abnormal lactose and d-xylose tolerance tests, it was necessary to subject the patient to aggressive immunosuppressive therapy and this decision was influenced by the idea that these abnormalities saw the patient suffer from vitamin B12 deficiency anemia. While various treatment options have been designed to manage these conditions, immunosuppressive therapy was considered for the patient as they are more effective and safer as compared to other treatment options (Norman et al., 2015).
