The target group is children in elementary school, and the primary objective is to promote health. The proposal addresses Childhood Obesity as a public health issue. Statistics from the city of San Diego (CDC, 2013) indicate that for every four children, one is obese. This exceeds the national average since overweight children are likely to be obese upon adulthood. The diagnoses that are applicable to Childhood Obesity are monitoring eating patterns, ration of food intake to body needs, lack of health knowledge, activity resistance, sedentary lifestyle, and changed nutrition. The readiness to participate for the target population, which is elementary school children entail experiential and emotional factors. Examples of these factors are communication skills, academic abilities, self-regulation, self-control, social competence, and autonomy. Stanhope and Lancaster (2015) infer that the readiness to learn is also influenced by factors such as family characteristics, household income levels, parent’s level of education, child opportunities to engage in group or teamwork.
