Running head: COMPUTER SCIENCE DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Computer Science Discussion Questions Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation 1 COMPUTER SCIENCE DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 2 Computer Science Discussion Questions Answers 1. 802.11 is a family of specifications that specify a wireless interface either between two wireless clients or between a certain station and a wireless client. 802.11 WLAN basic building block is known as the Basic Service Set; the building block is considered to be the smallest. Basic service set has wireless stations tasked with the execution of similar MAC protocol. The stations share a wireless medium, which they compete to access and it is in this way where the wireless future is used to make the connection so easier for the users who are available. 2. An extended service set which is abbreviated as (ESS) can either be one or more basic service sets (BSSs) usually interconnected, and the LANs connected with them. BSSs are each comprised of one access point (AP) and the wireless devices which create the 802.11 WLAN, either enterprise or local. An ESS with a set of BSSs is required to have a service set identifier (SSID) which is common. The SSID assists so much in boosting the signal in the entire wireless network which is commonly known as the (Extended Service Set (ESS). 3. IEEE 802.11 has several services that need to be provided by LAN to ensure it provides similar functionality to that of wired LANs (Geier, 2001). The nine services inclu ...
