These rocks are varied in terms of appearance, characteristics, and composition. In order to have a proper understanding of these rocks, geologists have grouped them in three major groups. This group is based on their characteristics, and they are as follows; Sedimentary Rocks: As the name may suggest, they are mainly formed by an accumulation of sediments found in the earth. They include the likes of breccia and shales among many others. They are usually characterized by having a loose texture, and this is justified by how they are formed in the first place. Metamorphic Rocks: As their name may also tell, they are the types of rocks that underwent a metamorphosis and were initially either sedimentary rocks or even igneous rocks before their transformation through metamorphosis. The change they undergo is significant, and hence, they become different from what they used to be. They include the likes of schist and amphibolite among many others. Igneous Rocks: Geologists have time and again stated that these particular types of rocks arise from magma and magma is, therefore, the original parent of these rocks.
