In my view, for a researcher to end with valid results in experimental, quasiexperimental, correlational studies he or she must understand the roles that are played by different variables in the study. For instance, there are independent elements which are manipulated to see the effect on the dependent variables (Mishra & Min, 2010). As well, there are the dependent variables which are of interest in the study. Lastly, there are the extraneous variables which are not a part of the study.
