It is important to know your audience so that you are in a position to write in a manner that will empathize with them, address any difficulties and concerns, as well as appealing to them rationally and emotionally. Furthermore, knowing the audience helps in deciding on the kind of content, choice of words and sentence structures. Before crafting an effective message, it is crucial to know whether the audience is formal or informal, whether to use a language that is disciplinespecific and to consider opposing arguments. Familiar and shorter words communicate the writer's message better. It is also important to treat slang with caution as they are most likely not to express the message in a formal language. Specialized technical language is not always bad as it helps the writer deliver the message in a concise and professional manner. However, we should avoid too much jargon. Question 2.
