Due to the level of education they receive, physician assistants can work autonomously without supervision by physicians (Hooker, Cawley & Everett, 2017). Physicians can sometimes monitor physician assistants electronically. The physician assistant program started in the US in the early 1960s to increase health professionals in the military so that they can be of help during wars. Roles of a Physician Assistant Physician assistant (PA) offers a wide range of medical and surgical services to populations that live in both urban and rural places.
