This paper provides a detailed analysis of the meaning and the importance of EI about the formation and leading of teams. Also, the paper assesses the fundamental skill set required in the management of functional teams. Scientifically generated survey questions on the level of EI may be used to develop better team cohesion. 2 EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND TEAM LEADERSHIP Emotional Intelligence and Team Leadership Remarkably, effective team leadership requires team leaders to develop and maintain high levels of Emotional Intelligence (EI) to uphold team cohesion and motivation. By definition, EI eludes to the capability of correctly identifying and managing personal emotions and the emotion of others, especially in a team setting. EI normally has three basic skills levels. Individuals who have high sense EI are completely aware of their emotional state, harness the emotions and apply them in solving problems relating to the workplace or otherwise, and the ability to control one's feelings and those of others.
