Running head: WEEK 5 1 Week 5 Discussion 1& 2 Name Tutor Institution Course Date WEEK 5 2 Discussion 1 In order to improve performance, managers ought to understand the needs of their business so as to identify supply chain areas that need improvements. Assessing process inputs can help managers understand aspects which require increased volume, more innovations, or reduced lead-time. This can help increase efficiency and reduce waste of company resources by ensuring that resources are only channeled where they are needed. In order to ensure improved operations, managers can communicate and discuss with their departmental teams and suppliers about the company’s goals and areas which need improvement. Other aspects of the business such as innovations should also be advanced or changed to match the desired outcome and long term goals in terms of quality and efficiency. This would offer suppliers a clear reason as to why to adhere to certain specifications. However, in order to ensure adherence to these specifications, the labor as well as suppliers should be provided incentives by paying them more or by offering profit sharing schemes. In order to ensure adherence to set goals in all input aspects, managers should set metrics and communicate these to the involved parties, as this will ensure adherence to set guidelines.
