Several studies have indicated that absence of positive social relationships is a risk factor for morbidity and mortality (Umberson & Montez, 2010; House et al., 1998). According to Umberson & Montez (2010), existence of good social relations makes them a source of strength and support for health in general. In contrast, lack of good social relations leads to poor health, lack of improvement and might lead to death. Social relationships, both quantity and quality, affect mental and physical health which increase mortality risk (Umberson & Montez, 2010). Different scientific evidence shows that involvement in social relationships can affect health positively. In their study, House et al., (1988), found that individuals with low level of involvement in social relationships were more likely to die than those with greater involvement. Umberson & Montez (2010), found that social relationships have significant effects on health and social relationships which shape health outcomes throughout the life course and have a cumulative impact on health over time.
