An institution is referred to as an establishment formed for a particular purpose. The purpose could be social, political, religious or educational. People in an institution follow similar rules and regulations. Institutional governance is therefore the process in which policies and decisions are made concerning a specific institution. The objective of institutional governance is to ensure that the system is designed in a way that helps meet the objectives set efficiently and effectively. A robust system of governance in an institution is therefore important to ensure organizations are able to perform their duties effectively with a high level of accountability and transparency.
