The consumption of energy drinks across the world has been on the rise. The increased advertisements to new demographics such as youths who are vulnerable yet the companies involved provide limited information about the adverse effects of these products. In the aim of protecting consumers it is important to explore the adverse effects these energy drinks may have on consumers. The consumption of energy drinks has various adverse effects including dental erosion, increased fatigue after use, increased susceptibility to diabetes, irregular heartbeats and substance dependence. The energy drinks are responsible for increased blood pressure, weight gain and sleep problems. Energy drinks have their benefits as well and they include providing restorative functions and increasing physical and cognitive performance. Energy drinks leave the individual feeling tired rather than energy. The initial energy boost provided by energy drinks is only momentary as it ends within a few hours.
