Other heart conditions include aortic as well as peripheral arterial disease. In unique cases, abnormal heart murmurs may go together with heart disease and cardiomyopathy, leading to heart attack and resultant death. Innocent heart murmurs, which are often harmless, are usually caused by the turbulent or rough flow of blood through the arteries or near the heart. However, systolic murmurs occur due to constrictions of the heart muscle and in the process, reduce blood flow to the heart. As a result, a detailed examination of an individual with abnormal heart murmurs is vital because its main causes are similar to the causes of other heart diseases.
