1 The Triangle Factory Fire. Student’s name Institution Date 2 The Triangle Factory Fire. On the 25th of March, 1911, the Triangle Shirtwaist Company factory located in New York City was consumed by fire, leading to the death of 146 people. The scene is recalled among the most tragic events in America and more specifically, America’s industrial setting. The tragedy took the attention of the public, largely due to the nature of the Triangle Factory fire. The deaths were aggravated by the horrid conditions of the factory. The factory seemingly took advantage of cheap labor, and had many workers congested in the sub-standard rooms. Moreover, at the incidence of fire, there were locked doors and insufficient fire escapes. The media were quick to shed light on the neglect of the employers through political cartoons and photographs, this was evidenced by pictures of congested working spaces, some with underage children sewing clothes into the wee hours of the night. This paper delves on some of the cartoons and photographs following the occurrence of the Triangle shirtwaist factory fire, focusing on the aspect of unfavorable working conditions evident in the Triangle shirtwaist Factory. 3 Figure 1: An Italian immigrant woman carries a clothing material at home.
