This week we explored the "Indian Wars" as viewed through Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz' An Indigenous Peoples History of the United States. For this week's discussion board, imagine that you are describing this conflict to another student who is not a member of this class and using Dunbar-Ortiz's text explain to them the answers to the following questions: What was the root cause of this conflict? Who were the players? How many factions were there? and finally how did the various sides view what was happening? (200 words - Worth 25 points) Then respond to another student's post and suggest how the text either supports or challenges their position. (100 words - Worth 10 Points) Only submissions made directly using the text box and or pdf files will be eligible for credit on this assignment. Rubric: Primary Response: (25 points - 200 words) An A level response (22-25 points) Will engage with all aspects of the prompt, use detailed specifics from the text (including direct citation), and will meet the word count. A B level response (20-21 points) Will represent a good faith effort to complete the assignment, but will fall short in one of the above criteria. A C level response (17-19 points) Will be a response that fails to meet multiple areas of the prompt, and or, one that fails to meet the word count and does not complete one or more of the above mentioned criteria. A D level response (16 points or lower) will fail to complete several of the above mentioned criteria and will be vague and non-specific. A 0 (zero) will be earned for a lack of a post by the due date. Grading within a grade level will be determined by the student's overall level of engagement the prompt and the source material. Response to a fellow student (10 Points - 100 words) An A level response (9-10 points) Will engage with material presented by the author at a significant level, this means more than stating agreement or disagreement, and should include an explanation of how the text helps support or challenges the author's position. A B level response (7-8 points) Represents a good faith by the student to respond to their peer, but is light on details from the text. A C level response (5-6 points) Will be primarily personal opinion unsupported by details from the text.
